6-yr-old girl burnt alive by mother’s lover

A six-year-old girl, Bhavani, was burnt alive on Tuesday morning by her mother’s drunk lover at Jeedimetla.

Vijay, lover of the the girl’s mother Shobha, wrapped Bhavani in a mattress, doused it in kerosene and set it alight. The poor girl managed to extricate herself and ran out crying for help. Locals rushed her to the hospital but she succumbed to her burns.

Shobha leaves their Mahadevpur Colony house in Gajula Ramaram of Jeedimetla daily at 6 am and was not at home when the incident took place.

Jeedimetla Inspector of Police A. Sanjeeva Rao said, “Her father Channaiah passed away a few years ago and her mother was having an affair with the accused identified as Vijay, a 28-year-old unemployed. He used to visit Shobha often. We are yet to arrest Vijay and Shobha too is yet to come to us. Locals say that she comes back home at around 10 pm.”

He was drunk and in a semi-conscious state and was not able to say why he did the ghastly act.
